Died peacefully, aged 62 years, at his home in Levin on 23rd July 2026, surrounded by his family. The eldest and beloved son of Anne and Bede Squire. Brother and brother-in-law of Philip and Claudia Squire, Brigid and Graeme Hewitt, Thomas and Majorie Squire, Rachel and Edward ffinch-Mitchell, James and Maria Squire, Abigail and Scott Batty, Ruth and Martin Burns and Anastasia and Tom Montague. Loving and loved uncle of Eliza, Phoebe, Olive and Jemima Squire; Eve, Meg and Maximillian Hewitt; Emma and Luke Squire; Xavier and Charlotte ffinch-Mitchell; Theodore and Beatrice Squire; Benedict and Esther Batty; Charles, Hamish, Octavia and Lucia Burns and Edith, Penelope and Harriet Montague. A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wereroa Rd, Levin at 11.00am on Monday 3rd August. Matthew will be interred at Makara Cemetery, Wellington on Tuesday 4th August about 11.30am. Family vigil prayers will be held on Sunday evening at his home.
