Passed away in Gisborne on 1st August 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. John was dearly loved by Kieran and Kieran's mother, Sue, and was a proud grandfather to Mylah and Evander. He was a much loved and treasured son of the late Bernard and Olga. Cherished by all his family members; Michael, Anne, Christine, Jane, Judith, Darryl and their partners, Eugene, Brian, Phil, Phillipa, and Lindsay, and his brother, the late Peter. Loved as an uncle by all their children. John built close and lasting friendships up and down the country over a lifetime spent connected to those around him - as a teacher, as part of his church community, and as an active participant in sports. Thanks to the staff at Te Wiremu House for the support and care of John during this time.
