Aged 81, passed away in the presence of family, in Waikanae, the evening of Saturday 1st August 2026. Born in Queenstown, 29 June 1945, to Bill (William Robert Harvey) and June (Isabel Jane Heffernan). Retired Squadron Leader Joan Dougan, a highly significant figure who reached the rank of Squadron Leader in the Regular Air Force, the earliest woman to achieve this senior rank within the RNZAF. With her 30+ year career, she received an MBE in 1985 for her Commitment and Contribution to New Zealand. Loved sister of John, sister-in-law to Norma, and aunt to William and Carolyn. Loved wife of her late husband Dick. Cherished friend of so many. Her funeral will be held at Cedarwood, 17 Parata Street, Waikanae, on Monday 10th August at 11.00am. Joan will be laid to rest in Waikanae Cemetery.
