We're terribly sad to announce our beloved Kaumatua, Harry, has died. He passed, surrounded by family, at home last Sunday after a furious fight against cancer. Harry was the beloved husband of Shirley for 66 years; son of Donald (Glasgow) and Elizabeth (Edinburgh); brother of Alan, Ian and Donald; cherished father of Lauren, Richard, Steve and Rochelle; outrageously devoted grandfather of Erana, Kali, Tiana, Luke and Eden; great-grandfather of Stella, Peyton, Javier, Rico, Carter, Eden Jr, Dallas, Sonny-Serene and Maiata; and great-great-grandfather of Chance and Ayble (with more on the way). He loved his wider whānau including Anne (Rarotonga), Daina, John, David and Carole Miller (Banks Peninsula), and the Anstis, Cleverley, McMahon, Toro, Aupapa and Henderson clans. Harry was a master builder and cabinetmaker, mentor and coach, sage wit, mischief maker, curry aficionado, hangi digger, Labour Party supporter, proud Life Member of the Kapi-Mana Darts Assn, cricketer, hockey ace and top football boss (Porirua City FC). He was an unusually skilled gardener with an enthusiastic following. He was an active member of the Porirua community and he knew everyone. A big shout-out to the people who helped him over the past few months – Dr Indika Mudiyanselage (Whitby Doctors) the hard-pressed and overworked (but brilliant) staff at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals and the excellent people at Mary Potter Hospice (please give them a $$$ donation if you can). Harry was farewelled at a typically chaotic and hilarious private send-off earlier this week.
