Helen CLEARY

Di (as her friends called her) passed away after a long illness on Thursday 24 September 2026. Devoted wife of the late Jervis, mother of sons David and Mark, mother-in-law of Hattie and Bronwyn, and grandmother of Iris, Ned, and Vivienne. Loving sister to Judy. Staunch friend of the 'coven' and those who knew her best. Through the '70s and '80s she championed women's rights over their bodies, voices and labour. She was always a fierce opponent of conservative stagnation and oppression. Thanks to the staff at Millvale House who cared for her and eased her passing.

A memorial service to celebrate Di's life will be held in the Lychgate Chapel, 306 Willis Street, Wellington, at 11.00am on Monday 21 December 2026.
