ME

Aged 85, a longtime resident of Port Elgin (Ontario, Canada) and later of the Southampton Care Centre, died in hospital on August 1, 2026. Treasured husband and best friend of Kathy for 61 years. Dearly loved Dad of Ashley, Justin and Brendan. Adored grandpa of Emanuelle, Dominique, Sebastien, Hudson, Ava, Bruce, Iza and Liam. Son of Commissioner A Bramwell Cook and Dorothy (nee Money), brother of Bramwell (deceased), Jocelyn (deceased), and Graham and Lindsay. Alan was born in Christchurch and 3 months later travelled to India with his family where he lived and schooled for 13 years before returning to New Zealand. He graduated from the University of Canterbury with an ME in Electrical Engineering, and then went to Britain on an engineering scholarship where he met and married Kathleen Ada-Juliette Barnes. In 1969 Alan and Kathy immigrated to Canada with their firstborn son, Ashley, to start a life-long career in nuclear power station electrical engineering. He remained professionally active until a stroke in early 2022 forced his retirement at the age of 81. His greatest legacy lies in his contributions to Canada's nuclear industry, particularly at Bruce Nuclear Power Development, and in the love of sailing, learning, and adventure that he instilled in his family. A funeral has been held in Southampton. Messages can be sent to Alan.cook562@gmail.com
