Ian NILES

Ian passed as he lived, surrounded by the very many people who loved him, and perfectly at peace on August 26, 2026; aged 88. Ian is the cherished husband of Helen, father, father-in-law and grandfather of Chris, Ross, Jo, Hamish, Karen, Debbie, Nic, Ben, and Thomas. Ian's kindness and generosity enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Attacking life with a wicked wit, far, far too many golf clubs, and the willingness to mow the lawn of literally anybody who asked, he left this world, and his neighbours' grass, better than he found it. The Niles family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff at the Timaru Hospital critical care unit, the South Canterbury District Nursing Services, Highfield Lifecare, and especially to Sue and Tim Shewan. We owe a debt we can never repay.

A celebration of Ian's life will be held at Aoraki Funeral Services Chapel, 160 Mountain View Road, Timaru, on September 14 at 1.30pm. A livestream of the service is available, please email office@aoraki.kiwi.nz or call 03 6862148.
