Surrounded by family at Telford Rest Home on Wednesday 16 September 2026, aged 97. Former husband of Verna (dec) and Faith.

Loved and respected father and father-in-law of Diane & Colin, Karen & Chris, Ross & Gloria, Fiona, Shane & Kelly, Marcus & Lisa, Haedon & Angela, Jarrod, Justen & Paige, and Courtney & Kristin. Loved Grandad and Poppa of his 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Messages to the Smith Family may be left on Don's tribute page at eagars.co.nz/don. A service to celebrate Don's life will be held at Eagars Te Henui Chapel, 46 Watson Street, New Plymouth, on Friday 25 September 2026 at 10.30am, followed by his burial at Mangapouri Cemetery. For those unable to attend, Don's funeral will be livestreamed via his tribute page.
