Passed peacefully on June 29, 2026, at Otago Community Hospice, aged 92 years. Dearly loved husband of the late Heather Spicer (née Sinclair); much-loved father and father-in-law of Jan and Andrew Taylor; Dean and the late Michelle Spicer; and Linda and Noel Hill. Loved Grandad of Mark, Rachel, Sarah, Catherine, Antoinette, Johnathan, Michael, Autumn, Matthew, and Letitia, and great-grandfather of Noah and Kobi. Loved brother of the late Jim Spicer, brother-in-law of Di and Ralph Sinclair, uncle to Vicki and Steve, and a special friend to many. - A farewell for John will be held at the Kaikorai Rugby Club, 25 Lynn Street, Māori Hill, Dunedin, at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 8, followed by a private cremation.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at the service.
