Passed away peacefully in Nelson, surrounded by family, on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Best friend of his wife Carmen. Loved Dad of Cherie and Michael Ashby, Jason and Kylie Smart, Renee Smart and Steven, treasured Gramps of Chantelle and Laeticia Ashby; Caitlyn, Amber and Zachary Smart.

A funeral service will be held at the Nelson Adventist Church, 34 Collingwood Street, Nelson, on Saturday, October 3 at 6.00pm. This will be followed by a memorial service at the Ilam Adventist Church, 26 Ilam Road, Upper Riccarton, Christchurch, on Sunday, November 1 at 11.00am.
