Posted 23 September 2026

BASSETT, Colin (Dr). Passed away 17th September. Former Director of FRI (now SCION) A family man, esteemed friend of many scientists colleagues, including Sandy McQuire. Apart from his scientific achievements, his legacy includes the carving of the legend of Tane, now erected in the Eastwood Cafe/ Scion Reception area. It was his vision to have this commissioned to recognise the contribution of Maori to forestry. When viewing this magnificent work please extend a thought to Colin and the forestry stalwarts who have passed on.
