WILLIAMS, David Owen Charles (DOC). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of DOC on 21 September 2026, aged 87 years, at Lady Wigram Village in Christchurch. DOC was a loved son, brother, husband, and father to Richard, Suzanne, Carl, and Erin. He was also a much-loved and proud Poppa DOC to his grandchildren. DOC will be remembered by his many friends and by generations of New Zealanders who knew him as a newsreader, sports commentator, director, and producer throughout a distinguished career spanning almost four decades in New Zealand television. He was also widely respected for his longstanding involvement in Auckland's sailing community and, in later years, became a familiar and warmly regarded presence in Blenheim. A private cremation has been held.

A celebration of DOC's life will be held on Tuesday 6 October at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, 8/10 Tāmaki Drive, Auckland from 3.00pm.
